New Life For Traditional Processes
Following are some of the key improvements that Riverside has developed to provide customers with excellence in casting quality, price and service.
In-house tool & die
- Riverside was one of the first foundries to invest in its own tool & die shop to provide fast turnaround on patterns, trim dies and core boxes
- Our CNC-equipped die shop ensures precision with the high repeatability required by customers
Olivine sand molds
- many foundries still use traditional silica sand to make their casting molds
- Riverside uses only fine grade olivine sand to ensure the greatest dimensional accuracy, to minimize moisture-related defects and to achieve a smoother finish than silica sand molds can provide
- using olivine sand provides a healthier workplace by removing the risks
associated with silica sand
- olivine sand is constantly recovered and reused, lowering process costs and reducing our foundry’s impact on the environment
Equipment innovations
- Riverside is continuously researching and developing ways to improve the quality and performance of foundry equipment
- Riverside’s experimentation in ways to reduce side-shift errors in commercial molding machines led to improvements that are now shared under license throughout the industry
- as a result of this development, Riverside molds are matched to tolerances of +/- .010"; finished parts are more precise and require significantly less trim work
Precision trim dies
- traditionally, flash and parting lines are trimmed manually by grinding or tumbling
- using trim dies to shear off the flash allows greater accuracy and consistency than manual processes
- with our in-house tool & die shop, Riverside produces precise trim dies in a more timely and cost-efficient manner
